The Sanibel Historical Village & Museum
May 28, 2009
The Sanibel Historical Village & Museum captures and conveys life on the island before the causeway (B.C.) when everyone and everything arrived by ferry. Several of Sanibel’s older buildings can be seen here including the oldest, Burnap Cottage, which was built in 1898. On a more modern scale, there is a complete Sears & Roebuck catalog home, delivered by ferry and built from a kit in 1924.
November through May the museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday; June through mid-August you can visit from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. Admission is $3; the museum is closed on holidays.
The Historical Village & Museum is located at 950 Dunlop Road near City Hall and BIG ARTS. (239) 472-4648.
