Entertainment

May 28, 2009
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander
And lest anyone think that the Sanibel and Captiva islands are just art and nature, be assured visitors will find an assortment of evening entertainment as well. The Schoolhouse Theatre on Periwinkle Way has been entertaining visitors and residents for many years with new and old favorite musical productions. Live music in a dinner and club-like atmosphere can be heard at Dolce Vita, Ellington’s Jazz Bar and Grill, Key Lime Bistro, and the Jacaranda. For more casual fun, check out the NASCRAB crab races held at the bar at ‘Tween Waters. Musicians are encouraged to “jam” on Sunday nights at the American Legion Post on San-Cap Road. BIG ARTS on Dunlop Road brings an extensive program of musical events to the island during season. From December to April they offer concerts and performances of jazz, classical, and many other musical styles. In addition, the month of March brings the Sanibel Music Festival and a wide selection of world-renown classical artists to perform several times a week at the Congregational Church on Periwinkle Way.
