Orchid Society to meet on Monday

November 10, 2009
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

"What's This Orchid and How Do I Care For It?" will be the topic of the Monday, Nov. 16 meeting of the Sanibel Captiva Orchid Society. The meeting will take place at 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, located at 2304 Periwinkle Way on Sanibel.

Presented by "The Tom and Ronn Show" - orchid society Vice President Tom Uhler and President Ronn Downey - the program will introduce participants to various growing conditions for different orchid varieties.

There will be no beginners' class at the November meeting nor will there be plant sales. Participants are encouraged to bring orchids to trade/sell. Anyone with questions or an "ill orchid" that needs diagnosis can bring their plants to the meeting during Show-and-Tell.

Orchid Society members are invited to participate in a monthly show. Ribbons are awarded for best Hybrid and best Species Orchids. Members and guests are also invited to participate in a monthly orchid raffle. Society membership is $20 annually, and guests are $4 to attend each meeting.

For questions or other information, please call Nannette Lehr at 395-3327.
