Arthur William Kauffman

Arthur William Kauffman sailed into eternity on Jan. 22, 2010. He was 86.

Born on Dec. 31, 1923 in Rochester, N.Y., Kauffman attended the University of Rochester School of Engineering. He was a World War II Army veteran who served in the 106th Infantry Division in the European Theatre and survived the Battle of the Bulge.

Following the war, Art moved to Indianapolis, Ind. where he resided for 38 years, during which time he co-founded Kauffman Engineering Company, Inc. in Lebanon, Ind. Art served in various leadership positions including Commodore of the Indianapolis Sailing Club and was active in local community civic associations both in Indianapolis and Sanibel, where he retired in 1981.

Art had a passion for boating and cruising. He was a member of the Sanibel Captiva Power Squadron for more than 25 years and an active member of the Captiva Island Yacht Club.

Art will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife and First Mate of 65 years, Dorothea ("Dee") Kauffman; their children - Allan ("Biff") Kauffman and his wife, Susan Jo, of Sanibel, Susan Gail Money and her husband, Richard, of Carmel, Ind., and Kelley Belanger and her husband, Scott, of New Castle, Maine; a brother - Gerald Kauffman and his wife, Molly, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four grandchildren - Aaron Kauffman, Scott Kauffman, Matthew Money and Sophie Belanger; and eight great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.
