To the editor,
I am writing simply to clarify my previous letter that I submitted for possible publication.
My appeal relative to the Sanibel River has been going on for over 10 years now. We used to have an organization called SOR (Save Our River), but it seems that I am the only one left hoping for some closure.
I met with the City Manager and the Conservation Officer over eight years ago about the river and they listened patiently and left me with hope. I met with them again in April of this year in my back yard, overlooking the Sanibel River. They listened patiently, contested nothing that I said, and left without a commitment to do or say anything.
I have long ago gave up the idea of saving the river. It has gone way past that point. I simply am looking for some closure, some acknowledgement of what has happened. I am sure that there are underlying political issues that have always impacted the city's position on the river and made it a closet problem that the media honored but it is time to throw that aside.
