Florida Gulf Coast University hosts "FGCU Sustainability Week." Many activities are planned during the nine days, running from Saturday, Oct. 2 to Sunday, Oct. 10 to help the campus learn how to conserve resources and build a more sustainable community.

The events will be of interest to students, staff and faculty at FGCU, and interested community members.

Alumni, students, faculty and staff will kick off FGCU Sustainability Week this Saturday, Oct. 2 with a beach cleanup at Bunche Beach in Fort Myers. The Second International Humanities and Sustainability Conference will be held Friday and Saturday in the Student Union, which will include a Friday Forum on the Gulf of Mexico and the Oil Spill. The forum is free and open to the public.

The week closes on Sunday, Oct. 10 with a student work party that includes tree planting, trash pickup, invasive species removal, bat house construction and the installation of a reptile floating sunning bed in the lake.
