Capt. Smith to address Sanibel Island Fishing Club
April 6, 2011
This coming Tuesday, April 12, the Sanibel Island Fishing Club will be holding it’s monthly meeting. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the north room of the Sanibel Island Community House, located at 2173 Periwinkle Way on Sanibel. The featured speakers will begin their presentations at 7 p.m. sharp. There is no admission charge for the event and the angling public is cordially invited to attend.
This month's featured speaker is offshore Captain Greg Smith. The topic of his presentation will be the dos and don’ts of offshore grouper fishing. Greg has been a captain for 12 years. He is a fourth generation Fort Myers area resident and an experienced deep sea captain. Greg is also very familiar with Sanibel, having worked at The Bait Box and run the shrimp boat for Islander Ralph Woodring. He currently operates Gulf Business III, a 33-foot Morgan out of Fish Tale Marina.
Capt. Smith will discuss the various techniques he uses when targeting both red and gag grouper in the Gulf. Topics will include the best bait, how to read your bottom finder among other pertinent topics. With grouper season recently reopening, this will be a great presentation for all offshore and near shore anglers.
The Sanibel Island Fishing Club meets monthly through season and sponsors several group outings as well as lending support for various fishing related charities and organizations such as START, PURRE and the Sanibel Sea School.
