Buntrock captures first Cribbage Mini-Tournament event
April 6, 2011
In 1944, Bob Buntrock had his first 28 Cribbage hand. On Monday night, he counted his second and it led to a first place win in the initial 2011 Cribbage Mini-Tournament at American Legion Post 123, held on April 4.
Buntrock held three fives and a ten and a five was cut. He also counted nine in his crib. His opponent was a stunned Pete Mindel who vowed to return for revenge on Monday, April 11.
Buntrock won five games in a row to post a perfect 605 score and collected the $15 first place prize. Butch Bouchard was a close second with 598 and took home $9 for his efforts. Doug Moore scored 578 to cop third place and $3. Ernest Olsen, Pete Mindel and Rick Adams also played.
Monday night’s Mini-Tournament was the first of three being run each Monday night at Legion Post 123 starting at 6 p.m. Interested players should be at the Post by 5:30 p.m. to sign up and be briefed on the Tournament format.
On Monday, April 25, all players from the first three Mini-Tournaments will meet in round-robin competition to determine Sanibel’s 2011 Cribbage Champion of Champions. Last year’s winner was Dar Rizzo, with Becky Skog and Bob Bunrock tying for second.
Entry fee for each tournament is $5. Participation is open to anyone who knows how to play the great game of Cribbage.
