Sanibel artist Bea Pappas will speak to the Sanibel Captiva Art League at its general meeting on Thursday, April 21 starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Sanibel Community House, located at 2173 Periwinkle Way. Refreshments will be served. Ms. Pappas will give a short talk on experimental art and also give a demonstration of some of her methods in water media.
Bea Pappas is a well known island artist known for interesting experimental techniques in water and other media. She recently explored a lightheartedly grotesque theme in the well-received Cigar Box Invitational Sculpture Show in Founders Gallery at BIG ARTS. She was also a prize winner at the popular "Recycle It" show in BIG ARTS last year.
A New England native, Bea attended the DeCordova Museum School in Massachusetts and has studied with such noted artists as Betty Lou Schlemm. She is award-winning signature member of the International Society of Experimental artists. She is a teacher both at BIG ARTS and in Boston where she resides in the off season.
In addition, Pappas was a founding member of the popular Hirdie Girdie Gallery on Sanibel. She is currently the new co-chair of the Visual Arts Committee at BIG ARTS.
