Registration is now open for the Florida International Senior Games & State Championships scheduled in Polk County Dec. 1-9.
The 21st annual Games are a qualifier for the 2013 National Senior Games to be held in Cleveland, Ohio, in the summer of 2013.
The Florida International Senior Games offers three ways to register. The easiest way for athletes to register is online at www.flasports.com. Also available on www.flasports.com are PDF documents athletes can print and mail back to the Florida Sports Foundation. Finally, the games registration books have been printed and mailed to prospective athletes who have qualified at a Local Senior Games competition.
Entry fees vary and registration deadlines vary by sport.
The games offer 23 sports for competition. Two of the sports, softball and the 10K road race, will be held on dates in November. Softball will be played Nov. 3-4 and the 10K is Nov. 17. Both sports are qualifying events for the National Senior Games.
Of the more than 20 sports, the following are required to have a qualifying performance at a local Senior Games - badminton, basketball shooting, 3-on-3 basketball, bowling, cycling, golf, horseshoes, shuffleboard, swimming, table tennis, tennis and track and field. Non-resident athletes are not required to qualify at a local Senior Games qualifier for any sport.
