CEPD holds September meeting

September 14, 2012

With only October remaining in the budget year, the Captiva Erosion Prevention District's board of commissioners discussed its options on where to move a total of $27,000 of unspent money.

Treasurer Dave Jensen made a motion, which was seconded by Chairman Jim Boyle, to move it into the project reserves fund. Commissioners Mike Mullins and Doris Holzheimer voted against the motion.

In the event of a tie vote, a motion is defeated.

Additionally, the board unanimously voted to have a tentative June 1, 2013 start date for its next beach nourishment project. Chairman Boyle said CEPD has two options on proceeding with the project partner with Collier County and Long Boat Key, which present a few concerns, or do it on their own. That discussion prompted the board to vote on a tentative project start date to meet time constraints for using government funds.

In other items:

Director of Lee County Division of Natural Resources Steve Boutelle, along with DNR's Justin McBride, told CEPD commissioners the Blind Pass dredging project has been completed with the exception of a few clean-up details. However, the dredge was too large to make it up Roosevelt Channel.

CEPD will hold its next budget hearing at 5:01 p.m. Sept. 20 at Tween Waters Inn, Captiva Drive. The public is invited to attend.
