Leaders from Health Management Associates and the Lee Memorial Health System announced a major contribution toward the capital campaign of The Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida.

Health Management Associates, which recently was named by Fortune Magazine as ranking No. 1 in healthcare in social responsibility and in quality of product and service, has pledged $750,000 toward the development and building of America's newest, state-of-the-art hospital for children to serve the residents and guests of Southwest Florida.

"We are pleased to support the effort to provide a new world-class children's hospital to the region," said Alan Levine, president of the Florida Group for Health Management. "Our more than 4,000 employees in the region and their families want the peace of mind of knowing that highly specialized services which can only be provided by a regional children's hospital are available, and this commitment is made on their behalf. We applaud the leadership of Lee Memorial Health System for having the vision to make this a priority."

Levine added, "Our hospitals in the region from Physicians Regional Health System in Naples all the way to Venice Regional Medical Center in South Sarasota - have been ranked among the best in the nation, and we are very proud of the services they provide. We also know it is important that, for children's health systems to be effective, they must have scale and highly specialized services not available in community-based acute care hospitals."

"Health Management's recognition as a company that acts responsibly is well deserved," said Jim Nathan, president of the Lee Memorial Health System. "Looking past competitive differences, and coming together to support something so critical speaks volumes about the leadership team of Health Management. That Health Management is a Florida company and takes such an active interest in the children in their own state and region is something we should all applaud."
