Sanibel's City Council continued discussion on drafting a proposed neglected property building and grounds ordinance that would address neglected properties within the land development code. At the October council meeting, staff presented proposed regulations to help bring nuisance properties into compliance by bridging the gap in the code.

"I am in favor of you adopting and enforcing (this ordinance) as soon as possible," said Diane Hartman Chelsey, a Dunes resident since 2010 who lives across the street from a derelict home. "It is in disarray; the yard has not been mowed in two months and it poses health and safety concerns. This ordinance would apply to it."
