Southwest Florida painter Hollis Jeffcoat was selected to participate in an international exhibit at the National Gallery of the Republic of Georgia in September.

The curator, Richard L. Tooke, a scholar and collector with 30 years as director of the Museum of Modern Art, chose five paintings from Jeffcoat's new series, "Portals" to be in the exhibit, "Punctum Contra Punctum II."

"One criteria that marks an artist's advancement in the eyes of the art world is a museum exhibit. This hard-earned honor is usually bestowed on mature artists recognizing their efforts, dedication, body of work and a talent that is uncommon," said Maureen Watson, owner and curator of Watson MacRae Gallery.

The exhibit, which includes the work of 20 visual artists from 12 different countries, is part of the Government of Georgia's mission to create an international cultural hub in its capital city, Tbilisi, by bringing highly accomplished Western artists to Georgia to exhibit and educate. Jeffcoat will travel to Tbilisi for the opening on Sept. 1 and spend a week giving talks about her work at the museum. The exhibit will then travel to venues in the United States and Europe.

Earlier this summer, Jeffcoat's work was also selected to be in an exhibition at the Florida Museum of Women Artists in Deland, Fla., whose mission is to educate the public about women in the arts. This exhibition will be on display through September.

Jeffcoat's work, which continues to explore and evolve, remains fresh and evocative, garnering recognition and admirers. Jeffcoat, after spending 25 years away from her native Florida, lives and works on Sanibel Island.
