Island celebrities are devoting a night to waiting on you hand and foot.

For the last four years these familiar faces have donated their time to be guest waiters at The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum's Celebrity Island Dinner, a fundraising event to raise money for the museum.

The 2013 "Outrageously Island" Celebrity Island Dinner is on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Traders Cafe and Store starting at 5 p.m. Co-sponsored and hosted by Traders, tickets are $60 per person, which includes happy hour, a four-course dinner service at 6 p.m. and karaoke at 7 p.m.

Last year, more than 100 guests attended the dinner and registration is open. For locals, the dinner is seen as a kick-off to the upcoming season on the island.

Dorrie Hipschman, the museum's new executive director, is attending the dinner for the first time.

"It's the first big event of the season," she said. "It obviously benefits the museum's educational programs but it sounds like a wonderfully fun evening."

Besides the Celebrity Island Dinner, the museum organizes Under the Sea and an Oyster Eating Contest, two other major fundraising events.

Celebrity waiters will dress up in entertaining costumes and earn tips by "begging" or revealing a hidden talent.

This year's island celebrities include: Ric Base, Sanibel Captiva Chamber; Mark Blust, Prawn Broker Restaurant Group; Doug Congress, City of Sanibel; Mick Denham, City of Sanibel; Alison Dry, Cip's Place; Krista Fogelsong, NBC-2; Terry Igo, San-Cap Trust Co.; Anne Joffe, She Sells Sea Shells; Richard Johnson, Bailey's General Store; Bobby Logue, BIG ARTS; Clay Miller, NBC -2; Pam Rambo, iloveshelling.com; Boone Randolph, Singing Wind Realty; Dan Schuyler, Lily & Co Jewelry Gallery; and T Shea, Costco.

"I love the theme that the more outrageous the better," said Hipschman. "I think everyone who comes will go home laughing."
