Fort Myers police are investigsting a fatal motorcycle crash officials say happened after the rider, angered after a car cut him off, passed the vehicle, struck a median, lost control and then struck a light pole. The bike flipped and landed on top of him.

The single vehicle crash happened near First and Bay Streets shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Responding officers were told that the driver of a Honda sedan was traveling on Fowler Street and turned right onto First Street in front of the motorcyclist, who has not been identified.

According to witnesses, the motorcyclist "got mad" and tried to pass the Honda, officials said in a prepared statement.

The man was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital where he died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigators say the motorcyclist was at fault for the crash and that "road rage" was a factor. Other contributing facors were rain and the wet roadway.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.
