A Cape Coral man lost control of his car early this morning and crashed into a tree.

Keith Bradley Knicely, 25, of 323 N.E. 42nd Terrace, was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with multiple life-threatening injuries following the accident in Cape Coral, according to officials.

At about 2:30 a.m., police responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 2400 block of Diplomat Parkway East. Knicely had been driving westbound in a Chevrolet Cobalt when he lost control while navigating a curve in the road. Officials reported that the Chevy crossed the median and oncoming lanes of traffic.

The car then left the road and struck a tree head-on. Knicely was not wearing a seat belt at the time.

He sustained multiple critical injuries and was trauma-alerted to the hospital by ambulance. According to officials, Knicely underwent surgery at the hospital for his injuries, but was expected to recover.

Officials reported that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.

The investigation continues.
