Special to the Reporter (sancapnews@breezenewspapers.com) , Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

Generous donations from Sanibel Island, along with those of the Tahitian merchants and Pets du Soleil Pet Photography, raised $834 for the Gulf Coast Humane Society during Pet Palooza 4 on Jan. 11.

Pet Palooza 5 is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tahitian Gardens, 1975 Periwinkle Way. This is the perfect opportunity to find a pet that will bring love into your home for years to come. The Royal Shell Companies, Tahitian merchants, and Pets du Soleil Photograhy join together again in support of the GCHS. The shelter pets will be available for their meet and greet from 11a.m. to 1 p.m.

If you are already a pet owner, you can support the shelter by having Pets du Soleil Pet Photography photograph your pet. Their climate controlled photography trailer is set up especially for pets. K-Nine Connections Life Center & Academy Kennels will be on site to discuss pet training and provide an agility course for your pet to try. The Tahitian merchants will donate a portion of their day's sales to the GCHS. Please have your pets on leashes for their safety.

The Gulf Coast Humane Society is a not-for-profit, no-kill, animal welfare organization that does not receive any federal, state, or county funding and no funding from the Humane Society of the United States or ASPCA. In 2013 the GCHS created Second Chance Fund, which allows people to donate directly to the care of their sick and special needs animals. This helps to alleviate some of the financial cost that comes with the extra care needed. All donations to the Second Chance Fund directly offset the medical cost for those pets with needs beyond routine medical care. Donations are greatly appreciated. The Royal Shell Companies host several meet and greet events with the GCHS throughout the season. Sanibel has historically been very generous in their support and by opening their homes and hearts to many of the shelter's dogs. GCHS is located at 2010 Arcadia Street in Fort Myers.
