A man has been released from the hospital following a crash involving a Cape Coral driver.

As of Tuesday, Louis F. Barahona, 57, of Lehigh Acres, had been discharged from Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken last week after the accident on Interstate 75 in Collier County.

On Wednesday, Kurtis F. Beach, 34, of Cape Coral, was traveling north on I-75 in a Toyota Solara in the inside lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. At 5:36 p.m., near mile marker 114, a Ford Escape traveling in front of Beach in his lane started to slow down as the traffic ahead did.

Beach apparently failed to slow down in time to avoid a collision.

Beach tried to steer to the right, and the front of the Toyota struck the back of the Ford, the FHP reported. After the impact, the Toyota traveled across the other northbound lanes of I-75 and entered the east shoulder of the highway. At the same time, the Ford left the road and entered the median.

The driver of the Ford, Barahona, attempted to maintain control of the vehicle by steering to the right. The Ford's tires dug into the grass, and the car overturned. Barahona sustained serious injuries.

He was transported via Medflight to the hospital, where he was treated.

Beach was not injured in the crash, according to the FHP.

Beach was cited with careless driving in connection to the accident.
