A Cape Coral motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries Thursday after a five-vehicle crash near the Midpoint Bridge earlier this week.

Todd Michael Hudson, 42, died from his injuries at a local hospital, where he was transported Tuesday morning after the accident in the 2200 block of Veterans Parkway East, according to officials.

The Cape Coral police reported that a Chevrolet 3500 truck was stopped for traffic in the inside eastbound lane of Veterans, with a Mitsubishi Galant stopped behind it and a Toyota Camry stopped behind the Galant. Riding a Harley Davidson, Hudson slowed as he came up behind the Camry.

At 7:44 a.m., a Ford E250 van traveling behind Hudson apparently could not stop in time and struck the back of the motorcycle, causing a chain reaction. The Harley was propelled forward, striking and lodging itself into the back of the Camry. The Camry was then pushed forward into the Galant's rear.

At that time, the Camry also began to spin counterclockwise, according to police. It hit the concrete barrier with its front end, before again striking the rear end of the Galant with its rear right side.

After being struck by the Camry, the Galant was propelled forward, where it hit the rear end of the Chevrolet.

While the chain reaction was occurring, the Ford veered right and overturned onto its right side. While it was overturning, the Ford struck the Galant on the rear right side, the police reported.

Hudson sustained serious injuries and was trauma alerted to the hospital, where he later died.

The driver of the Ford, Jose D. Domenech, 35, of Cape Coral, sustained injuries in the accident and was transported to a local hospital.

As of Thursday, he had been treated and released.

The driver of the Camry, Lee G. Jennings, 41, of Cape Coral, also sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital.

As of Thursday, Jennings had been treated and released.

The driver of the Galant, Paula E. Berg, 62, of Cape Coral, also sustained injuries in the accident and was transported to a local hospital.

As of Thursday, she had been treated and released.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Myles C. Cope, 25, of Punta Gorda, also sustained injuries in the accident and was transported to a local hospital.

As of Thursday, Cope had been treated and released.

Cope had a passenger in the Chevrolet who reported no injuries at the time of the crash.

According to police, neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the accident.
