Play for Pink 2016

December 14, 2016
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

To the editor:

For those who missed this fabulous fundraising effort, the Dunes Women's Golf Association, which held its annual Play for Pink tournament last Jan. 23, is pleased to announce that it raised $20,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). This organization, funded by Estee Lauder, Wilson, Bloomberg, and Elite Travel, donates 100 percent of monies raised to support breast cancer research. If you were on the Island in January, you will remember we had rain. Lots of rain. So much rain, in fact, that on that day (like many others that winter) golf could not be played. The fundraising success came about through the generosity of the players who turned up for lunch and to donate funds, bid on auction items and purchase raffle tickets, as well as through the generous support of many island residents and businesses.

We want to thank those island businesses who so generously supported the cause, including the Sanibel Captiva Trust Company, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank, and the Hanser Foundation. Hole Sponsors also included Bailey's, Bank of the Islands, Barrier Island Title, Doc Ford's, H2O Outfitters, Jerry's Foods, John R. Wood Realtors, Rosier Insurance, Sanibel Day Spa, Starfish Grill, and Trader's. Also, thank you to the many Dunes members who opened up their hearts and their wallets to sponsor both holes and carts in the names of loved ones and friends.

The following local and Island businesses provided outstanding items to be auctioned: Congress Jewelers, Doris Zogas, Erica Cossairt, Sundial, Lucas Century, Miguel Hnatow, Sanibel Day Spa, The Sanibel Inn, The Sanibel Sea School, South Seas, Stone Harbor Golf Club, The Dunes Golf and Tennis Club, Tween Waters Inn, and Vera Bradley.

Bennet's and Floral Artistry provided donations in support of this popular and fun event. Thank you to all!

The following individuals and businesses donated raffle items:

Adventures in Paradise; Billy's Bikes; B-Unique; The Bonefish Grill; Cape Nails; Cip's Place; The Crab Shack; Eileen Fisher; Finnemore's Cycle Shop; Gale's Design; Home Goods; The Island Cow; Jacaranda; The Lazy Flamingo; The Lighthouse Cafe; Linda Miller; MacIntosh Books; Massage Envy; McLaughlin's; Mike Dutton; Nail Spa; Sanibel Surf Shop; Sanibel Home Furnishings; The Dunes Golf and Tennis Club; Target; Three Crafty Ladies; Timber's; Trader's and Whim's.

We are looking forward to another successful fundraiser to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017.
