Reading in the Refuge

Hear an exciting wildlife-themed story from a naturalist and make a craft about an animal from the estuarine ecosystem at 10 a.m. in the Visitor & Education Center at the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, at 1 Wildlife Drive, Sanibel. For pre-K through sixth grade, but all ages welcome. Program is 45-minutes long. Bailey Homestead: Making the Land Work

A walking tour of the Bailey Homestead Preserve from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. blends SCCF's mission-driven work on the historic property, the history of the land itself and some stories about the Bailey family. Taking Charge of Your Financial Health

F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva and Fifth Third Bank will host "Taking Charge of Your Financial Health" from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Sanibel Community Church, at 1740 Periwinkle Way. Ruben Perales, financial relationship manager with the bank, will lead the discussion. The workshop will help individuals and families learn how to set up a basic budget, slash debt and boost credit scores. The workshop is open to the public and snacks will be provided. All-Levels Yoga

All-Levels Yoga from 10 to 11 a.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Use of asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), mudra, philosophy, meditation and guided relaxation techniques. Instructor is Dr. Susan Pataky. Indigo Trail Walk

Naturalists lead a one-hour tour identifying and discussing the ecosystem's plant and animal species at 10 a.m. at the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, at 1 Wildlife Drive, Sanibel. Turtle Tracks

Learn about the life cycles and habits of the sea turtles and shorebirds that nest on Sanibel beaches, SCCF's monitoring activities and what it is doing to protect them from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Nature Center, at 3333 Sanibel Captiva Road, Sanibel. Wild Coffee Duo

Wild Coffee Duo will perform at 7 p.m. in the Grand Cypress Room at Shell Point Retirement Community's The Woodlands, at 14441 Woodsong Lane, Fort Myers. Formed in 2015, the group will host its "Back in Time: A Musical Retrospective of a Century Ago" concert. With the end of World War I and the birth of Leonard Bernstein in 1918, audiences will celebrate music from the milestone year, including songs such as "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" and selections from "West Side Story." Candidates' Forum

The League of Women Voters of Lee County and Alliance for the Arts will host a Candidates' Forum for the race for State Attorney's Office at 6 p.m. at the Alliance for the Arts, at 10091 McGregor, Fort Myers. The event is free and open to the public. Each candidate will make opening and closing statements and will be asked to respond to questions from the league and the audience. Family Beach Walk

Meet at the Gulfside City Park on Sanibel for a one-hour guided exploration of the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge's Perry Tract at 9 a.m. Learn about the vital beach ecosystem. Wildlife Wonders

What makes a bird a bird? Why is a manatee a sea cow? Is it a crocodile or alligator? Join a staff member at 11 a.m. to learn about the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge's unique ecosystem and find the answers to these questions and more. Subject will change weekly, depending on the presenter. Program is 30-minutes long and takes place in the Visitor & Education Center, at 1 Wildlife Drive, Sanibel.

MONDAY, JULY 23

Shell Crafters

Shell Crafting Class from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Make flower figures or animals. Limited class size; first come first served. The Lost World of Atlantis - Did it Exist

The Academy of Lifelong Learning at Shell Point Retirement Community will host "The Lost World of Atlantis - Did it Exist?" from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at 15101 Shell Point Blvd., Fort Myers. Florida SouthWestern State College Professor Adrian Kerr will investigate recent archaeological discoveries, review historical events and decide whether Plato's account of the "land of Atlas" holds any validity. Diabetes 101

F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva and St. Michael and Wendy Warner, parish nurse at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, will present Diabetes 101 from 1 to 2 p.m. at 2304 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. The workshop is for those who would like to learn more about diabetes and for those who are diabetic. It will cover the value of good nutrition, an appropriate daily meal plan, a good A1C range, and effective exercise and physical activity. The workshop is open to the public. Lunch will be provided.
