F.I.SH. of Sanibel-Captiva recently announced that it has been named a "2018 Top-Rated Nonprofit" by GreatNonprofits, a provider of user reviews of charities and non-profits.

Now, with many different programs, services and workshops, full-time social workers, administrative professionals and a team of volunteers, F.I.S.H. is truly a unique organization," President Maggi Feiner said. "We are a human services organization, focused on 'neighbors helping neighbors.' The mission of F.I.S.H. is to lend a helping hand to those who live, work or visit here. The F.I.S.H. vision is to enrich the lives of everyone on Sanibel and Captiva islands through an array of food programs, island-based workshops, social services and helping hands."

F.I.SH. of San-Cap provides everything from a home meal delivery service and food pantry, to adult and youth scholarships and transportation, to medical equipment for loan.

"We are honored to be named a 2018 Top-Rated Nonprofit," Board Chair Nicole McHale said. "We are proud of our accomplishments this year, including helping a family through a critical medical crisis through our Emergency Financial Assistance Program, sending a fourth-grader to the Summer Institute for the Gifted through our Youth Scholarship Program and aiding dozens of households in their recovery from economic losses due to the red tide/green algae environmental disaster. I am proud to lead this wonderful team of caring individuals who make our community a better place."

The award is the based on the rating and number of reviews that F.I.S.H. received from volunteers, donors and aid recipients.

"F.I.S.H. provided a haven of support when I found myself in an unexpected and traumatic emergency," one client wrote. "Their generous gifts of short term housing, food and transportation helped me gain the strength I needed to persevere through a crisis. Their love and support for our residents and guests improve the quality of life for us all."

GreatNonprofits is a website where people share stories about personal experiences on more than 1.6 million charities and nonprofits. The Top-Rated Awards are the only awards for non-profits determined by those who have direct experience with the charities - as donors, volunteers and recipients of aid.

"F.I.S.H. is a great example of a nonprofit making a real difference in their community," Perla Ni, chief executive officer for GreatNonprofits, said. "Their award is well-deserved recognition not only of their work, but the tremendous support they receive, as shown by the many outstanding reviews they have received from people who have direct experience working F.I.SH. of Sanibel-Captiva."
