A memorial service for retired Sanibel Planning Director James C. Jordan will be held on April 26 at 5 p.m. at Saint Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church, at 2304 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.

Additionally, Mayor Kevin Ruane and the Sanibel City Council will recognize Jordan's 33 years of dedicated service to the city posthumously on May 7 at 9 a.m. at City Hall. Members of the community will also have an opportunity to express condolences to the family in person beginning at 8:30 a.m.

When Jordan retired in 2018, he had more than 33 years of professional planning experience, all with the city of Sanibel. At the time of his retirement he was the longest tenured employee. Jordan began his career as a planning technician and was later appointed to planner. He earned his associate's degree from Edison Community College and his bachelor's from the University of Florida, majoring in public administration with a minor in urban planning.
