Captiva Memorial Library presents activities for November

The Captiva Memorial Library, at 11560 Chapin Lane, Captiva, is offering the following free programs for adults and youth throughout the month of November, along with the remainder of October:

ADULT PROGRAMS

- Nov. 3-9: International Games Week

Play classic checkers, "the game of games," or try other versions such as Fox and Geese, Give Away, Shifting Pyramids, Corner Checkers or Goban. Alternatively, reverse the field and play Tic Tac Toe or Super Tic Tac Toe. Also available will be Fort Myers-Opoly, Sort It Out and Pictureka. Instructions included.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

- Today, Oct. 30, to Oct. 31: Nocturnal Animals

(daily during operating hours)

See a book display about nocturnal animals. Play in the sensory bin with pretend black bow tie pasta bats and orange rice. Enjoy making hanging paper bats.

- Nov. 1-9: Celebrate Native American Heritage Month

(daily during operating hours)

Native American books will be on display. Fun activity sheets will be available. Make a paper bag teepee. Decorate the teepee with Native American symbols.

- Nov. 12-16: Celebrate Native American Heritage Month

(daily during operating hours)

Native American books will be on display. Fun activity sheets will be available. Decorate craft sticks to play Sticks and Bones, a traditional Native American game played by a number of tribes.

- Nov. 19-23: Happy Thanksgiving

(daily during operating hours)

Check out Thanksgiving Day books. Activity sheets will be available for children to complete. Make a paper turkey and fold the feathers accordion style.

- Nov. 26-27: Happy Thanksgiving

(daily during operating hours).

Enjoy the holiday book display. Decorate drinking cups for Thanksgiving using construction paper and cupcake liners.

The library will be closed on Nov. 11 for Veterans Day and on Nov. 28-29 for Thanksgiving.

Stop by the Captiva Memorial Library to read a favorite magazine or newspaper; to discover a good book, DVD, or music CD; to color or create a craft; to do a puzzle; or to play a game of checkers.

The Captiva Memorial Library is open Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday from noon to 8 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about a program or to register, call the library at 239-533-4890.
