The Sanibel Historical Museum and Village will hold its first Twilight Talk of the year on Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. at The Community House and the topic is "About Community - Community Housing & Resources' 40th Anniversary."

"We're thrilled to be able to offer this Twilight Talk to highlight CHR and all they have done and continue to do for the Sanibel community," Executive Director Emilie Alfino said. "Their program benefits not only the people who are able to take advantage of the housing opportunities, but also our island community, as these new residents take part in community jobs and activities, including volunteering."

The program will feature Sanibel's first mayor, Porter Goss, who will talk about the city's beginnings. Mayor Kevin Ruane will discuss the city's continued involvement with CHR, and Councilman Richard Johnson will talk about the program's growth.

"CHR is about more than buildings. It's about people and history," Alfino said. "CHR and the city of Sanibel can be proud of all they've done to make the island a better place and to create opportunity for a lot of people."

CHR formed in 1979 as a nonprofit to address the growing need for affordable housing on Sanibel. It was in 1983 that an ordinance was passed by the city that established the affordable housing program, and CHR was designated as the city's housing foundation.
