Current Events (Monday) will present its sixth annual Economics Seminar on Jan. 24 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Founders Room at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.

Beginning with a presentation by Dr. Eric Zwick, associate professor of finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, the discussion will focus on income inequality and measures to deal with it. He has a PhD in business economics from Harvard University and a BA in economics and mathematics from Swarthmore College.

Zwick has won numerous awards, including the Chicago Booths Leo Melamed prize for outstanding research in finance, and the Martin award for excellence in business economics from Harvard. In 2019, he provided testimony to the Joint Economic Committee of Congress on inequality in the country.

Zwick's recent research has focussed on inequality, more specifically on understanding the nature of top income inequality and what has driven its recent rise. He looks at the impact of pass through businesses and how they are taxed, have contributed to the rise in inequality and at how important human capital is at the top end of the U.S. income distribution.

Zwick will discuss his perspective on the scope of inequality in the United States, its primary drivers, and possible policy actions that might help to address the issue.

A donation of $10 at the door is suggested.
